By Pete The Wargamer

This tutorial demonstrates how to paint Space Wolves Power Armour in its classic light blue colour scheme. It covers drybrushing techniques for creating gradients, applying base coats for various details like metallics, leather, and bones, and using washes and edge highlights to bring out depth and detail. The video also includes steps for painting faces and creating a snow-covered base.

Power Armour (Base Colour & Shading)

  1. 1.

Prime the model using a grey primer that offers a good starting colour for blue armour.

    Colour Forge β€” Wolfkin Grey

  2. 2.

Apply a thin layer of Wolf Grey to your palette, dampen your brush slightly, and work the paint through the bristles. Then apply a combination of tight circular strokes and a stippling motion to the armour, focusing on upper areas to start shading.

Two Thin Coats β€” Wolf Grey

  3. 3.

Enhance the effect with a second drybrush of Gravestone Blue. Focus the application to smaller areas that would be hit with the most natural light, repeating the drybrushing steps.

Two Thin Coats β€” Sanguine Scarlet

Washes (Shading)

  1. 1.

Heavily thin some Cygor Brown contrast paint with water to create a mixture that easily flows into recesses. Carefully target this mixture into the recesses of the armour, gold details, leather details, and fur to create the appearance of shadows and bring out surrounding details.

  2. 2.

Apply a thin wash to the silver details to create shadows and bring out the surrounding details.

Two Thin Coats β€” Oblivion Black Wash

Edge Highlights (Power Armour)
